2015 Canby 521 Giveaway

To help DatsunsNW celebrate their 10th anniversary, a couple of the members of Ratsun.net (datslocos & denmarkboy) have started a grass roots project to rebuild a 1970 Datsun 521 pickup.  The culmination of this project will be at the Datsun Driving Canby Fun 2015 event, where it will be raffled off by DatsunsNW to one lucky attendee.

The goal of the build is, not to create an "over the top" show truck, but a clean, reliable vehicle that can be safely driven daily.

The most current information with be posted in this running thread on Ratsun.net:
http://community.ratsun.net/topic/64634-2015-canby-truck-giveaway/

Since it can be difficult to sift through multiple pages of an ongoing thread to find all the information, I will be putting up a page on this site with a more condensed version as soon as I can.

Donations of time, parts and money for supplies/parts is greatly appreciated since this is a community build and not a sponsored build.  The forum thread contains a list of parts already being donated and others that are still needed.  I will also put that list on the web page when it goes up.

Bluehandsvideo is proud to help support this build by supplying and installing the front disc brakes and also, rebuilding the kingpins.

Datsun Driving Canby Fun 2015 will be June 13 & 14, 2015

Hi,

I just wanted to thank you for your YouTube Brake flaring video which taught me everything I needed to know to build my first ever brake lines on my restoration. I took your advice and went for the 'grip' type flaring tool (red handles in your video). In the instructions for this tool is explains that the cut outs in the edge of the strip with the inserts which goes between the tools cone and the pipe give the depth for the pipe sticking out of the tool (which you explain as being very difficult to measure an 1/8th of an inch). The edge rests across the side of the jaws of the tool and the cut out gives the correct depth for the pipe to stick through the jaws. I hope you don't mind me passing this on to you, as I thought you might like to update your video. Thanks again for such great help. Bob.

Hi Bob! Thanks! I'm really happy to hear that the video was a help. It's a bit comical about the depth setting. I seem to be the only person that didn't notice or figure out what the notches were for. lol! After about the first 4-5 people told me about it, I put a note about it in the description box, but it typically noticed. I really appreciate you taking the time to come on here and explain it. I actually haven't used the tool since that video. I'll have to pull it out and read the sticker on the inside of the lid to see if it tells about the notches. I'll feel extra stupid if it does!! I can't really fix this vid beyond the correction I made in the description box. It's my #2 most active vid, so I'm not looking to delete it or replace it. I don't know if there's any way to add any editing to the vid itself. Last time I tried it, it erased the original vid. Anyway......if you do a vid using the notches, send me a link and I'll put it in the description box. Maybe one of these days I'll make another vid, but I'm sure it will be quite awhile from now. :)
Thanks!!!
Mike
